Dear Reader—

How do you choose which books you’re going to spend your hard-earned money on? Is it the cover that catches your eye? A title? The author? Or the back cover story description?

I look at all of the above when picking a book. The final decision is made after reading page one and I pay particular attention to the opening sentence. Writing rule number one is to hook the reader and that should happen with the very first line of the book. It’s difficult for me to start writing a story until I have an opening sentence that will snag the reader’s interest. Hopefully!

I love hearing from readers. Let me know what some of your favorite opening lines are.

Happy Reading!
